“La Fábrica de Bodas” to Open the 15th Edition of the Dominican Film Festival in New York

Directed by Francis “Indio” Disla Ferrera, the film will celebrate its World Premiere on August 5 at the United Palace

Director Francis “Indio” Disla Ferrera is confirmed to attend, along with cast members Cheddy García, Fausto Mata, and Mexican actor Kuno Becker, as well as other prominent figures from the Dominican film industry.

La Fábrica de Bodas follows the story of an undocumented Mexican immigrant who, facing possible deportation, agrees to marry an American woman to obtain legal status and help her pay off her debts. To make it happen, they turn to an unconventional New York attorney. Through comedy, the film explores immigration, survival, and the challenges faced by many Latino families in the United States.

The festival also seeks to introduce New York audiences to the richness of Dominican cinema and its connection to the country’s history, politics, and social life. Each edition provides a diverse and inclusive space that brings together Latino communities from more than 21 countries through their shared appreciation of film.

The festival is recognized through an official proclamation by the City of New York designating November 9 as Dominican Film Festival Day. This milestone was secured through the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and underscores DFFNYC’s cultural significance and contribution to the promotion of Dominican cinema in the United States.
